Dr. Heyerly (who prefers to be called Dr. Summer) has a Bachelor degree in Animal Sciences and minor in Organicational Leadership Management from Purdue University, and D.V.M. from St. George's University. Dr. Heyerly was born in Ossian, Indiana, and went to Purdue University for her undergraduate degree. Then she decided to travel abroad to Grenada to receive her D.V.M. from St. George's University with Phi Zeta Academic Honors. She is a member of AAHA and the AVMA. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, paddle boarding, running, playing golf, reading, and traveling. She also enjoys watching the Green Bay Packers on Sundays!!!. Why: I am a small town girl from rural Indiana, from my first meeting with a baby lamb, I knew I was destined to be a Veterinarian. My love for sheep, grew to having a house (and barn) full of pets. The human-animal bond is unexplainable and I feel privileged to have a career that helps that bond flourish in many ways. I enjoy every aspect of my job, from the challenges of practices medicine, to the employees I work with, the pets I treat, and the clients that love them! I have 2 rottweilers: Hussy and Nuts. I also have 3 cats I rescued; Crazy with one eye, Stringy with OCD, and Little Man, a little black kitty that was hurt and lucky enough to stumble upon my doorstep.
Dr. Wiseman always knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian and started working at a South Florida practice as a volunteer at just 11 years old. She worked as a technician throughout high school before leaving for the northeast and completing her undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Wiseman then attended the University of Florida to study veterinary medicine and graduated with honors - Go Gators! Upon graduation, she was recognized by the American College of Veterinary Radiology for excellence in her clinical studies. Dr. Wiseman completed an intensive internship at Hollywood Animal Hospital before joining Imperial Point Animal Hospital. Her special interests lie in radiology and surgery and she is a member of both the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys reading, traveling and spending time outdoors - hiking, biking and diving - with her husband Jake. They also like just spending time on the couch with a good movie and their four-legged family. They have Samurai, an English Setter and Oliver, a Terrier mix, both rescues and very spoiled. Why: There is the easy answer- it's a given that every Veterinarian loves animals. But even more I have always enjoyed science and medicine and I love the relationships that I build with owners and their pets. Every day I come to work, there is a chance that I will make a huge and positive impact in the lives of my patients and their parents. It's a perfect blend of my interests and I am SO LUCKY that I get to do this every day.
Its fairly we all love animals, but here's a couple more reasons why I love being a veterinarian.. Making a connection. I once read "only with animals can sit side by side, no words spoken, no action taken, and walk away being completely understood." How true! No day is ever the same. Some of my most amazing, funny, and adorable memories have come from these spontaneous characters (both pets and their people!) Sense of wonder. Animals have always inspired my imagination, thrilled my spirit and tugged at my heart. Who wouldn't love to nourish the bonds between animals and people everyday.
